Corruption Law Survey
The purpose of this survey is to draw up a concise, high-level overview of the legislative provisions existing in various jurisdictions regarding a limited number of white collar crime specific aspects, as follows: (i) abuse of office, (ii) conflict of interests and (iii) denunciation as means of impunity or reduction of criminal sentences, insofar as they relate to holders of public offices (collectively referred to hereinafter as the “Concerned Topicsâ€).
The initiative of the overview comes from Maravela|Asociații (Romanian member of IBLC), on a background of civil unrest and inter-institutional conflicts in Romania arising from various proposed changes to the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code related amongst others to the Concerned Topics. For clarity sake, the purpose of the overview is not to comment in any way on these legislative changes but only to present in a factual manner the legislative provisions concerning similar legal concepts (if any) to the Concerned Topics that may be found throughout the world.
